Spectrum Sciences Institute

Spectrum Sciences Institute (SSI) was conceived by a group of prominent scientists and engineers based in Ottawa, through round table discussions and fori that occurred over a period of four years preceding incorporation in 1995. Dr. Jacek Wojcik and APREL Laboratories were the founding members and principal contributors of resources. SSI is an independently run and administered organization operating outside of APREL Laboratories.

As a not-for-profit organization, Spectrum Sciences Institute is owned and governed by its members from all fields of science, research, development, engineering and management.

Health & Safety Initiative

RF dosimetry ("RF exposure" or "SAR measurements") has become an important issue as part of greater concern of Health & Safety. The RF Dosimetry Research Board (DRB) is a project initiated in 1996 by the SSI. The need for a mechanism for the Canadian wireless industry to respond to the issue of health and safety is reflected in the mandate of DRB. Another motivating factor in the DRB was the need for cooperative effort of leading labs involved in implementation of dosimetry practices and search for balanced knowledge input to regulatory bodies.
